It is National Volunteer Week – Celebrate Service!

National volunteer week banner

National Volunteer Week is April 15 – 21, 2018, and we want to thank all our Extension volunteers that in one way or another help us reach, support and enrich our community here in Orange County.

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974; It is celebrated with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the nation. The reason: our passion for volunteering is contagious and more productive than we think.

Extension volunteers have been the right hand of our organization since the establishment of the Land Grant Universities through the Morril Act in 1862 under Abraham Lincoln, and later in 1890 (NC State and NC A&T respectively). You have helped us spread the knowledge and research from the universities to the people, and partner with community organizations. You are our eyes, ears, and voice in Orange County!

Last year alone, adults and youth related to Cooperative Extension contributed 13,362 volunteer hours with an economic impact in Orange County of $322,552. This includes contributions from different groups such as the Extension Advisory Leaderip (4-H, FCS, Agriculture), 4-H volunteers, Extension Master Gardeners Volunteers, Extension & Community Association (ECA) and EFNEP volunteers.

Thank you for all you do for our county!
