Overview of Local Food Systems Professional Development Series Logo

Are you interested in learning more about local food systems? Do you work with local food projects, but are unsure of the research about their impacts or the resources available to support you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might be interested in N.C. Cooperative Extension Local Food Program’s Overview of Local Food Systems Online Professional Development Training. The Training Program consists of three courses, and are available for enrollment from April 1 to April 30, 2021, with courses running from May 1 – August 1.

The Training Program includes the following courses:

  1. Foundations in Local Food Systems Development, 15 hours (prerequisite to Courses 2 and 3 below): Price = $230 (register online – starting 4/1)
  2. Farm to Fork: Foundations in Local Food Supply & Value Chains, 9-10 hours: Price = $185 (register online – starting 4/1)
  3. The Bottom Line: Economic Realities and Other Opportunities in Local Food Systems, 9-10 hours: Price = $185 (register online – starting 4/1)

This online training program is designed for those who are just getting started in their local food systems career, or for those who have experience but want to gain a broader or more complete perspective. The training program is housed at NC State University and is a partnership between N.C. Cooperative Extension, Clemson Cooperative Extension, and Virginia Cooperative Extension. 

Upon successful completion of each course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NC State University’s McKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education.

*Note for N.C. Cooperative Extension agents:- we plan to offer a combination of all three courses as a Graduate level course offered through the Agricultural Extension and Education program at NC State in Fall, 2021. Registration for the graduate course (AEE 595: Introduction to Local Food Systems) will open soon depending on your student status.
