Come Join Mary Leonhardi, an Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteer of Orange County for over 10 years experience provide a family oriented ‘Winter Sowing’ presentation and demonstration. Mary directed seed harvesting and seed cleaning for the JC Raulston’s Index Seminum (an international seed bank for public gardens) program.

Her experience is much greater since her career began as a child in her parents’ vegetable garden where she helped harvest and sample the food they grew.

Mary was awarded the NC State Level Master Gardener Outstanding Volunteer of the year in 2018 by the state Master Gardener Volunteer Association for the MGV programs she continues to lead and support such as the MGV Student Training Program.

Mary likes to try new things and that quality has taught her many things about plants. She sells summer vegetables in Hillsborough at the Eno River Farmers’ Market and currently selling potted plants.

Much of her experience in Winter Sowing has come from a desire to grow more native plants.

Mary will teach you how to perform Winter Sowing and provide you lessons she learned along the way. She hopes that you won’t make the same mistakes she made with your winter sowing.
