Whitetail Deer with Radio Collars

Whitetail deer are estimated to have a population of 1 million here in North Carolina. They are a species that both bring joy to people, but can also cause issues in regard to crop loss or car collisions. As development pushes further into traditional whitetail deer habitat, deer are becoming more present in suburban and urban areas. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission partnered with North Carolina State University to conduct the Triangle Urban Deer Study. This study sought to learn more about factors that affect deer ecology including mortality and human perceptions of deer in urban areas. Listen along as we speak with some of the team members to hear what they learned for this study and how it could influence whitetail deer in the future.
