Programs for Youth
North Carolina Youth Institute– For youth in grades 9-12. “This is an exceptional opportunity that ignites a passion for solving global hunger through an engaging exploration of agriculture and food systems. The North Carolina Youth Institute is an educational initiative of the World Food Prize Foundation and is designed to spark emerging leaders in developing innovative solutions for our world’s most pressing grand challenges surrounding feeding a growing population.” Local mentorship and support can be provided to individual students and classrooms across Orange County. Food For Thought STEM Challenge– For youth ages 10-14. Invite the Orange County Food Security Agent Jonathon Smith to your classroom or youth group to present up to three activities focused on food security, root causes, and innovative solutions to solving this critical issue in our communities. From National 4-H Council: “Food for Thought offers a range of activities designed for individuals or groups and are adaptable for after-school programs, 4-H clubs, classrooms, home use, and more!” There are three activities each lasting about 60-90 minutes.
