Summer can be a challenging time for many youth and families when children may not have consistent access to healthy meals like they usually would during the school day.  The following resources are available for children this summer in Orange County.  Visit this page in the future as we may add more as they become available.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools

• The CHCCS Summer Food Service Program operates June 16- August 7th, Monday thru Thursday, between 10:15am - 1:00pm. All sites will be closed on June 19th.  Meals are available to all enrolled students, anyone 18 years or younger and meals must be consumed onsite.
• Meals will be available at the following Chapel Hill Public Housing Communities in 30-minute intervals.Craig Gomains - 10:15am
  • Oakwood - 11am
  • Airport Gardens - 11:45
  • Colony Woods West - 12:30pm
  • South Estes - 1:15pm

Orange County Schools

• OCS Summer Food Service Program operates at the following locations.
  • Hillsborough Elementary in June
  • Cedar Ridge High School and Orange High School in June and July
  • River Park Elementary School in July
  • Bulk meal boxes will be distributed at New Hope Elementary, Pathways Elementary, and Gravelly Hill Middle School.
  • Cedar Grove and Efland Community Centers will also be school feeding spots open to the public.

Other Notes:

• TABLE will continue to deliver weekly to families enrolled in their programs as usual.
• Inter-Faith Council will continue to offer the Community Kitchen hot meals program which is open to anyone in need.  Lunch Weekdays 11:15 AM-12:30 PM, Lunch Weekends 11:15 AM-12:00 PM, Dinner Weekdays 6:15 PM
• SUN Bucks is a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) program that provides grocery-buying benefits in a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child on a debit-like card that can be used to buy nutritious food during the summer months when schools are out.
• Consult the Orange County Food Resource List for a comprehensive listing of food pantries and distributions that will continue to serve throughout the summer.  This includes food distributions in partnership with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC. go.ncsu.edu/feedorangecounty
